Lionel Messi is getting on well under Ernesto Valverde after six official games with the ex-Athletic Club manager.
And the team has continued taking shape in the direction Valverde intends it to go.
But the new changes in the team has left Lionel Messi concerned about his compatriot, Javier Mascherano.
Mascherano was converted from his midfield role to a central defensive position. But Valverde is enjoying the partnership of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti at the moment.
And with the performances of Pique and Umtiti, you can hardly fault the decision of Valverde.
However, Messi has specifically told Valverde about his fears of Mascherano and his participation in the World Cup in Russia next year.
Messi would want Mascherano to have a more prominent role in the role to boost his chances of featuring more for Argentina when the time comes.
So far, Mascherano has only played two games with Barça, one in the league and one in the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid.
Mascherano needs to get the maximum available minutes so that he arrives in Russia at his peak condition.
